R.I.P:
Kurt Cobain (1967-1994): Nirvana
Layne Staley (1967-2002): Alice in Chains
Both died on the same day....April 5th *strikes lighter* one from suicide, the other from drug overdose.
Both were HUGE in my musical influence. And both are still sorely missed to this day. I honestly don't know who's passing was more significant but...to have them both pass away on the same day is a bit eery. Seeing as both bands hit the mainstream around the same time and both bands were Seattle based. Enjoy this tribute video as we remember 2 of the most iconic musicians of our era.

Re: R.I.P
Dam onions make my optics leak fluid as I remember them. Both artists had a huge impact on my youth.
I was wearing ripped jeans and flannel shirts before the seattle grunge bands were mainstream. I was already on the bandwagon before it even had wheels. Way before they hit mainstream, I was listening to Nirvana and Alice In Chains and other "grunge titled" rock bands. The late 80's and early 90's were my age of prime. As the years progress, I irritated my friends with overplayed Nirvana songs. When I think back to the 1990's 2 things come to mind. Nirvana and Beavis and Butt-Head.
I remember the day very well. Can't believe it's been so long now. April 5th 1994, I come home from work. My mother (RIP) knew I was a huge metal head... so she told me I need to sit down. She told me about Kurt Cobain shooting himself. She mentioned that some fans followed him that same day. She was worried I might do something stupid. She asked how I felt and If I was going to be OK. I said "he shot himself?! What a dumbass!!!" I spent the rest of the evening in my room listening to every Nirvana song on cassette. LOL.
To this day I wish he was still alive. Who knows if Nirvana would still be around or not. Or if they would have broke up. Would we ever have Foo Fighters? (if not, would that be a bad thing?).
I still remember watching MTV as they did a huge tribute to Kurt. I recorded it on vhs and later converted it to dvd-r. I still got it. As well as a MTV live concert they did and the MTV Unplugged show.
The long suicide note read by his widow Courtney Love. (that bitch). I still think she has something to do with Kurt's death. She just started her band called HOLE. She was/is a huge drug user. She wanted to have the big spotlight on her and her band. What other way to do than bitch drama. Fucking whore! She held 100% of Nirvana copywrites for many years after. The other band members had to take her to court for their own music that they helped write.
At the time of Kurt's finding, optopsy claimed he was doped up on heroin (no suprise). But he used a long barrel shotgun. Being doped up on so much heroin, he was able to sit on the floor and put the barrel in his mouth and reach the trigger. Not impossible. But I believe Courtney hired El Duce. El Duce was the lead singer for a band called the MENTORS. Look him up on wiki. In April 18th, 1997, El Duce was found dead in LA being hit by a train.
I still listen to Nirvana and when I do. I now have collected all of their songs. Nirvana will always be a part of my music life.

As for Alice In Chains, It wasn't a matter of if but a matter of when. AIC had a downward spiral of events and fueds with Layne. I'm not sure if Layne commited his suicide for the fact of the anniversary of Kurt's. But it is rather ironic. The future of AIC was hit and miss. Depending on how much dope Layne was on. It was the drugs that created the wonderful sound of AIC. But it was also the drugs that killed the original voice of AIC. Alice In Chains was able to get back on their feet and eventually find a new singer. Already on "his" 2nd album with the band. So hopefully they continue to make great music.
RIP Kurt and Layne

Ray Manzarek, Founding Member of The Doors, Passes Away at 74
Ray Manzarek, keyboardist and founding member of The Doors, passed away today at 12:31PM PT at the RoMed Clinic in Rosenheim, Germany after a lengthy battle with bile duct cancer. He was 74. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his wife Dorothy Manzarek, and his brothers Rick and James Manczarek.
Manzarek is best known for his work with The Doors who formed in 1965 when Manzarek had a chance encounter on Venice Beach with poet Jim Morrison. The Doors went on to become one of the most controversial rock acts of the 1960s, selling more than 100-million albums worldwide, and receiving 19 Gold, 14 Platinum and five multi-Platinum albums in the U.S. alone. "L.A.Woman," "Break On Through to the Other Side," "The End," "Hello, I Love You," and "Light My Fire" were just some of the band's iconic and ground-breaking songs. After Morrison's death in 1971, Manzarek went on to become... a best-selling author, and a Grammy-nominated recording artist in his own right. In 2002, he revitalized his touring career with Doors' guitarist and long-time collaborator, Robby Krieger.
"I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek today," said Krieger. "I'm just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him."
Manzarek is survived by his wife Dorothy, brothers Rick and James Manczarek, son Pablo Manzarek, Pablo's wife Sharmin and their three children Noah, Apollo and Camille. Funeral arrangements are pending. The family asks that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.

So sad.. I remember watching the Ultimate Warrior as a kid, dude was one of the true Superstars of the WWF. Here's a clip from Raw from 2 days ago where he appears in the ring for the final time:
Re: R.I.P
his speech is rather haunting as well.
When a man's heart beats it's last beat
When a man's lungs breathe their last breath
He is truly a legend and one of my all time favorites from back in the day.
