Re: Who Remembers the '80's?
the return of Dai Atlas has made me remember about this thread.
I remember the 80s rather well. While living the 80's I hated it. I had a rough childhood and wanted to hurry up and get it over with. Now that has happened, I'd give anything to go back just for one day.
I started school in 1980
My first "crush" in 1981
Was the star in a school play in 1982
I moved to a different school in 1983
Was introduced to the TRANSFORMERS with a little yellow volkswagon
Almost got ran over by a full sized ford pickup truck in 1984
Moved back to my old school in 1985
Found my love for rock n roll music in 1986
Moved to a different school in 1987
Did not realize that ripped jeans, long hair, flannel shirts was a style nobody liked until 5 years later in 1988
Got my first Nintendo and moved on to High School in 1989
Throughout those years, my family was huge and close together.
That's what I miss the most.

Would you say it was the best of times, and it was the worst of times?

Re: Who Remembers the '80's?
who remembers the evolution of the audio cassette tape?
I remember making so many mix tapes for girls..
And of course making mix tapes for my homies as we cruise around in somebody's mom's car
I remember being able to stick a piece of wadded up paper in the bottom hole of a cassette tape making it able to be recorded on.
I did that to so many of my sisters Micheal Jackson cassettes. As well as her New Kids On The Block and her other crappy shitty music tapes.
I would wad up some paper or use a piece of tape to cover the hole of the original cassette, then I would record over it with AC DC or ZZ Top, Van Halen... whatever I had. It pissed my sister off.
I remember a time when blank cassettes could only hold 60 minutes worth of media.
30 minutes per side.
It was never enough space for me. I remember trying to calculate the length of songs so no music would get cut off at the end of the tape.
Then they released 74 minutes.... 90 minutes
I was more excited to see the 90 minute cassette tapes. 45 minutes per side seemed fair enough but still not enough for me.
100 minutes, then 120 minutes!!!
One hour per side of cassette!!! 2 full hours of music!!! Oh the fun I had with those making mix tapes and "cruising" tapes!!
If you were to listen to any of my mix tapes back in the day you would probably hear the following ... in this order....
side one
AC/DC
N.W.A.
Jimi Hendrix
Doors
Aerosmith
ZZ Top
Bob Segar
Led Zeppelin
Metallica
Motley Crue
2 Live Crew
Lynyrd Skynyrd
side 2
Van Halen (not Van Hagar)
Sammy Hagar
Twisted Sister
C.C.R.
Quiet Riot
George Thorogood
Ozzy Osbourne
Black Sabbath
Weird Al Yankovic
Pink Floyd
Steve Miller Band
Ratt
good times

Those were the days. Do you remember trying to record songs off of your favorite radio station, then the radio host would interrupt before the song ended and now you had a ruined song.

Re: Who Remembers the '80's?
I hated when the tape recorder would start eating up the tape, and you had to wind it by hand with a Bic pen or a pencil. Sometimes it would never sound the same if it got unraveled too bad and the tape had a lot of kinks or creases in it.

I didn't want to get a cd player or any cd's until I knew that I was able to make mix discs. I couldn't wait that long because I didn't get my first cd burner until the 2000's. I got my first cd in the 90's
AC/DC : Highway To Hell.
My first cassette tape was Van Halen: 1984
Then I got the first Ratt EP (which is out of print) and 3 more Ratt cassettes.
I've since bought them all on CD (even the Ratt ep) I seen that bitch on ebay for over $50. I found it used for $6
-Ebay!!

Re: Who Remembers the '80's?
80s music, I don't recall the names of the songs much, I would know the tracks if I heard them, about the only one I can think of, from the top of my head is from the Bodyguard film, at least recognise the music, of course back then, I was still a naive protoform with little clue about the world outside of the playground!

I was into a lot of Michael Jackson, Prince, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, Phil Collins, Aerosmith, and Run DMC in those days, when I was but a wee lad.
