Galvatron is officially out of a job

The company that I worked for the past 14 years had it's annual Christmas lunch party.
Each year we all get together and have lunch. Then the big wigs bring out awards for people that have worked 5 years, then the people that worked 10 years, then the people that worked 15 years (keep in mind the place is only 16 years old) .After all the awards are handed out, the big wigs give a speech on how things went during the past year.

This year, after all the awards were handed out, they announced they are shutting the doors permanently by April 2011. The building is up for sale. There are no orders to be made. They said IF they get an order in before April, they will call us employees back to work. Then lay us off again.

I get unemployment checks every week. And we get food stamps.
We should be OK.
I think God gave me this time off so I can focus on other things in life. I'm going to try college.
Not sure how to get a grant though. Next classes won't be until spring.

Maybe I should take up painting again. I have not done that in a very long time.

Damn. I'm sorry for your loss, bud. Things happen for a reason and maybe a new career path will come along that will not only pay well but be exciting and entertaining as well. Just gotta keep your optic sensors peeled.

i totally agree Roadbuster. The job I've had for the past 14 years never let me advance. They kept me where they wanted me because I was the best at it. I feel as if an old door has closed and a new one has opened.

Damn dude. college would probably work as long as you can still get unemployment during college. that is what im trying to do.

I'm glad that despite this difficult situation, you're helped by checks and you have the chance of considering new opportunities,I hope that you can find something better .

Damn thats not what you want to hear at Christmas time. Hopefully you will be able to find something to do that you enjoy, and I wish you luck in anything you try. Should you need us Galvy, we will all be right here for you.

Well...wish I had a job...been without one for 14 months now and it's nearly impossible to find one..so i just are in activation while looking, cause if i sit at home I will go NUTS!!!

No there is absolutly no work out here hiring. Unless you got a college degree.
I'm going out to seek employment aid today. There are a few companies that might be able to help me find a job.
I would love to go to the land down under. If I had a way of transportation.

What a shitty thing to happen at Christmas. Have you ever thought about just being a contractor by yourself? Or maybe get a couple buddies you work(ed) with and do it together. Whatever you do, milk that unemployment for every last penny.

one of my plans is to see about getting a contractors lisence.
I could be making serious money after that tornado if i had a lisence.

Forgot about this thread.....

Since I posted this thread I did get another job as a Janitor. I also cleaned windows and waxed floors. I did that for 11 months and got another job. Since December 5th, I now work for a company known as Jet Ind. I work in the fire protection dept. I am the shop guy for fire sprinklers. I fabricate material, stock, deliver. Hope it turns out to be a good job that keeps me around for a while. I kinda like it right now.
