Rare Transformers Toys

What ones count as rare?

I'd say 'rare' means store exclusives or short run figures. {Example alternators swerve}

Blah, I don't give a damn about the same toy with a slightly different paint job. I certainly don't pay anything extra for it. I might prefer 1 color over another, but thats as far as it goes. There are very few bots I'd like even a recolor version of if I had the other already. Like unicron, I'd certainly like the black version too.

But store exclusives aren't really "rare" either. They might seem rare to you Desz, but assuming you're talking about US Store Exclusives, these were produced en masse. Especially anything made after the mid-nineties or so (and I'm not aware of any pre mid nineties store exclusives?).
If you ask me, the list of "rare Transformers" is VERY short (in approximate order of rarity, and not counting alleged prototypes):

1) JAPANESE Store Exclusives (and these may only be rare because they haven't trickled over here yet)
2) Convention Exclusives (excluding those available via HasbroToyShop)
3) Japanese Exclusives
4) Euro/Japan Exclusives
5) Possibly some of the LATE G1 figures (certain Pretenders, Micromasters, Action Masters, especially those involving gold plastic syndrome)

I own 0 of subsets 1 and 2 and 3.
I own a few Euro Action Masters (Omega Spreem, Bombshell, Sideswipe, Thundercracker X2, and a couple others that escape me at the moment.) I'm unsure if these were released in Japan? If they weren't, then they'd fall in line at 3.5, just because they've trickled to the states more easily due to the lack of a language barrier, presumably.

Now, if you want to include vintage KO's and Pre-Transformers... some of those are REALLY rare. I own a Pre History Animals winged sludge (though one wing is missing the end) , and PHA Grimlock and a 4Star Scorpion Bombshell. Those probably fall into at least category 2. Possibly even Category 1 for rarity.

I have alternators SDCC nemisis prime is that counted here?

I don't know enough to know if they were japanese exclusives.

But at 1 point I had a BW2 Gigastorm complete

this is a tricky one as i think it depends were you live which sorts of mark it as rare or not (sort of like usa pretenders, 6 we didnt get for us would be rare, similar to the euro g2s over here to the usa members ?)

Banzai-Tron the Euro Only Action Masters Omega Spreem, Bombshell, Sideswipe, Thundercracker (and any of the others) were only relised in the u.k. and think some parts or the E.U. only if this helps yer ?

LOL, I haven't even heard of some of those toy lines.

lmao in honisty there repaints mainly (think battle unicorn and aveo are the only 2 not a repaint along with the beast wars japanesse line figures)

Are any of the mail away premiums from Hasbro's Transformers line considered rare or hard to find, like the camera, or that autobot watch? I've seen tons of knockoffs for the camera, and the parts for it too.

That watch is crazy rare, I hear. Camera, you mean Reflector? He's pretty expensive for a good complete one. Those stupid Powerdashers I don't think have much value. They're always so loose and never have any chrome left.

A3: can you tell me more about the radio-watch thing? I have the speakers to a black one that someone ID'ed for me (probably cybercat), but have never seen good pics of the whole bot.
