30 Years of Transformers
Where were you in 1984?
I was in the 4th grade.
Living in a tiny duplex building with my 2 sisters and mother.
Myself and a group of the local children would all hang out down by the river or riding our bikes.
Climbing trees and playing on the school ground swings.
One day, my mother came home with a present for me.
It was a little yellow volkswagen beetle car. On the back of the card, it shown me that I can change it into a robot.
It was the coolest toy ever!! It's 2 toys in one package!
I remember watching a tv commercial about a cartoon that has that VW robot.
As soon as I found out when it was going to be on, I watched it and the rest is history!
The Transformers G1 cartoon series is the best 30 minute commercial for selling Transformer toys
I took my Bumblebee to school with me to show my friends.
Not long afterwards everybody has a Bumblebee or a Starscream, Megatron, Optimus Prime.
YES KIDS TOO MEGATRON TO SCHOOL and nobody had a problem with it.
That little yellow volkswagen still sits upon my shelf 30 years later.
His head pops off and his legs are too week to stand so I keep him in VW form.

..1984?
I was 7 years old in the 2nd grade. I lived close enough to my school that I could ride my bike home in about 5 minutes or less, enough time to catch BOTH G.I. Joe and Transformers as they aired back-to-back. I can't remember when Masters of the Universe aired but I also watched that show religiously. Had lots of toys from just about all the 80's fandoms, but I honestly can't remember who my first Transformer was. Maybe Windcharger? Anyways, it was a great time to be a kid!

Re: 30 Years of Transformers
I remember that Gobots and Transformers were back to back for a while.
I was 9 years old in 1984. We were poor so I didn't get many "real" Transformers but I got a few Gobots and a bunch of KO's.
I had a buddy that had a bunch of He Man stuff and I remember going to his house and setting up all of his MOTU stuff outside and had many battles. Then we got bored and rode our bikes all over the place.

Re: 30 Years of Transformers
84, in nappies and learning to use the potty, I think, my memories of G1 were extremely vague back then, my oldest G1 cartoon memory is Fire in the Sky and Skyfire's sacrifice, the first G1 toy I can recall having, I think it was Seaspray from my Granddad of my mum's side of the family! Go bots I recall a little of it, but not much really sticks in my mind aside from Scotter having a face in vehicle mode and flashing cockpits, of course the theme stuck out to me, thou it was later years that I made sense of things, more! What truly made me come into TF, has to be RID series thou part reruns of G1 and bits of the magic of the Cybernetic space cube, the serious collecting didn't start until the classics line appeared! Ah the memories, I hate trips down memory lane, it makes me realise how much wasted potential time, got wasted!

Re: 30 Years of Transformers
Happy Birthday TF, upon this day, 30 years ago, in the US, issue #1 of a limited edition, 4 issue series, hit the stands and it spawned a legacy that no one foresaw coming! So:
And hopefully there be 30 more years of TF!
Edit:
Note to the powers over the scrolling message, add Happy 30th Birthday TF to it before you get a bunch of angry Dynobots come tromping and stomping down the mountainside!

Re: 30 Years of Transformers
first published in May 8 1984 but the cover date is September.
the first episode of the G1 cartoon series was first shown on TV September 17, 1984.
So the comics were first by only a few months.

Re: 30 Years of Transformers
That's something I'll probably never get rid of, being as it was a pain in the ass to complete, the original G1 (US) comic run.
Re: 30 Years of Transformers
they got them all in TPB now. But having the originals is way better and make for good toilet reading.
