Re: Generations Combiners 2015
I'm not investing my money seeing has Hasbro is a bit late to the combiner game! As for the figures, the combined modes look rather a mess, but at least Hasbro trying to win back fans that crossed over to the dark side of TF collecting, but as a certain green alien put it, once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny! Anyway, I kind of like Menasor's head but as I said, I'm not going to buy these figures as I've already collected third party combiners who in all likely hood to be taller and more streamlined than the official figures! My curiously is sparked a little, I would like them to take on Predaking (not the BH dragon, but the G1 style), of course, these figures are bound to have flaws, of course, the biggest flaw with FOC Burticus was the fact Onslaught ended up as a deluxe instead of being a voyager class figure!

Here is a link to the individual figures for both Superion and Menasar. I really like them. They are on my shopping list.

Re: Generations Combiners 2015
Considering I think TFC Uranos looks like an expensive pile of , I may dabble into Superion. And maybe Menasor.
Interestingly, it seems that they retain the whole 'Scramble City' style gimmick where any limb bot can form either an arm or a leg even with a core that they don't normally combine with. Heck, BOTH of them are using the exact same set of hands and feet just in different colors.

Uranos may cost more, but with the "Wings" kit, it looks a hell of a lot better than Hasbros new version. I mean.....if you're only going to have 1 definitive Superion in your collection, might as well be the best one.Detective Barricade wrote:Considering I think TFC Uranos looks like an expensive pile of , I may dabble into Superion.
Re: Generations Combiners 2015
I bet Uranos will tower over Hasbro's combiner, can't say about the FP one but he might be closer to them in size considering he more made from deluxe sized figures than voyager ones!

Re: Generations Combiners 2015
Hm, the Wing of the Uranos kit helps, but my overall opinion of the set still stands. Maybe I've just come to not really care for anything TFC Toys puts out since Hercules. But hey, you've got Uranos and you're happy with the set, and in the end that's all that really matters. I've got better things to drop over $600 on. Like Quantron, that damn sexy Computron lookalike Maketoy is putting out. And Tigris, the last arm I need to pay for the damn, sexy, bad ass beast Feral Rex.Sixshot wrote:Uranos may cost more, but with the "Wings" kit, it looks a hell of a lot better than Hasbros new version. Their likely to look rather similar overall, with Uranos, if you take off the missiles, wings and the boosters from him, you get a very G1 looking Superion, not prefect but still a good looking mech!

Re: Generations Combiners 2015
I think they look really cool, and one hell of a lot cheaper than all the "third party" knock-offs out there. I though FoC Bruticus was a bit of a let down, but at least we're getting 5 molds instead of the double molds like the Universe (?) Sup, Dev and Brut.
Re: Generations Combiners 2015
third party figures aren't Knock offs, their ordinal to the companies that produces them and I expect in the end, the third party figures will be superior than the Hasbro ones, but still, the Hasbro ones will be cheaper for sure as example, the Not Superion costs around £400 to buy including the Wings addon kit!

Re: Generations Combiners 2015
They may not be ripping of the moulds of the figures, but the third parties are definately 'knocking off' the interlectual property of Hasbro/Takara with their character designs.
The third party figures are always worth a look, but they are in a very grey area.

True, true!
One thing with MOST third party figures is that they tend to have very little in the way of Kibble, of course, when the day finally comes that every TF in G1 been produced in a G1 look, gotta wonder, what they'll do next, of course, some it be producing their own ordinal figures, example, Fansproject did that with their Scramble city, G1 inspired combiner! Of course, far as I'm aware, Fansproject started this whole third party thing with the addon to the Energon Superion figure, AKA Crossfire 1!

Well they already started down that route, one Third party has produced Cy-kill as a figure, I think he about the size of a voyager class, but I'm not sure on that and don't really care either!

Re: Generations Combiners 2015
Ok, stuff from the Toy Fair:
First off, the repaints of Legends class Megatron and Powerglide as Warpath and Viper:
http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/toy-fair-38/combiner-wars-legends-warpath-and-viper-at-toy-fair-hasbro-event-2015-182102/?s=b1836ca3698d560f89402601a13240e3
Second, leader Class Ultra Magnus, G1 inspired (NOT the white repaint kind of inspired):
http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/toy-fair-38/leader-class-ultra-magnus-at-toy-fair-hasbro-event-2015-182101/?s=b1836ca3698d560f89402601a13240e3
Third, Devastator:

Fourth, voyager Cyclonus:
http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/toy-fair-38/combiner-wars-voyager-cyclonus-at-hasbro-toy-fair-2015-event-182099/?s=b1836ca3698d560f89402601a13240e3
Finally for the moment, the Protectobots:
http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/toy-fair-38/transformers-combiner-wars-protectobots-at-toy-fair-2015-182098/?s=b1836ca3698d560f89402601a13240e3
My opinion:
Devestator, Viper and Warpath, not worth it, Devestator just doesn't look that imposing compared to the third party ones and kind of looks like a terrible retooling of the ordinal G1 toys! Warpath, much as I like the mould, Warpath to me, must always have the gun barrel sticking out from the chest, besides the deluxe figure the other year, was a great figure! Viper, don't know the character, thus, don't really care!
Magnus, looks awesome, I'll get him, same with the Protectobots, their combined form looks good, better looking than Superion!
Cyclonus, is it me, or does he look more like Galvatron than Cyclonus, with the head sculpt?

Re: Generations Combiners 2015
Thanks for the links SOP.
Looking at them I have to say that I like the Devastator set, seems very faithful to the original G1 design. The Protectorbots combined mode looks quite 'busy', loosing the simple clean look of the original.
Also, yes, Cyclonus does look a lot like Galvatron for some reason.

Re: Generations Combiners 2015
they added a new Protectobot and named him "Rook" how creative.
This is actually done well if you think about it.
They kept Groove smaller since he is a bike. This would look terrible as a limb.
So to make up for it, they give us Rook. Now we have 6 Protectobots.

I kind of agree with you, Galvy, it does make sense and makes it different compared to the third party version of the character! Of course, there has been slightly odder combiners of vehicles, example, the minicon combiners from Armada, like the Street action team, a push bike, a skateboard and a moped!
Anyway, I think, Ultra Magnus stole the show for TF fans, Devastator got trumped by the Enforcer, besides, I want that Ultra Magnus, Devastator is kind of lacking in the bulk department!

Re: Generations Combiners 2015
Well, Cyclonus forms the core of a combiner named Galvatronus... It's probably his horns/ears being cut off at the tips that's doing it to the head sculpt, in order to fit in the same space Silverbolt's head goes into. I might consider the Protectobots, but with CW and RID'15 costing $20 for a Deluxe here... I might wait and see what Takara does with the set if I bother with any CW figures at all. I'll stick with Hercules for my Constructicon needs, and I really dislike Long Haul's 'gorilla arms'. Still, I applaud Hasbro for getting all of their original names even if it means slapping Constructicon in front of them like it's going out of style.SuperOmegaPrime wrote:Ok, stuff from the Toy Fair:

I wouldn't give Crazy Devy the time of day. They charge way too much for kits that don't add much comparatively. Like $40 for gold chromed wings for Talon/Feral Rex.SuperOmegaPrime wrote:Detective Barricade wrote: I'll stick with Hercules for my Constructicon needs

Hasbro's Devastator is larger than Hercules, however.
